Nice article!
I am working from home as a freelancer & I deliberately use online tools for project management & collaboration. My favorite is DeskAway (http://www.deskaway.com)for project management & collaboration. I do recommend it my clients as it is simple, easy and affordable and simplifies lot of work and e-mail clutters.

I think that the most important thing here is an effective communication and in most cases this means you have to choose the right project management and collaboration software. Our PM tool was especially adapted for freelancers - http://www.comindwork.com, though the competition is fierce here and there are a lot of great tools indeed, at the end it all comes down to how much money are you willing to spend for effective communications and what exact features do you need

These are great tips, especially communicating clearly and using Web Apps. When working remotely, it's important to have all of your files, information, and applications on hand - no matter where you are! GoEverywhere provides a personal desktop for you to use from any location that has a computer. There's no need to lug your laptop around with you AND there's no need to upgrade your computer to a new operating system.
